Programme Objective

Find out for yourself how Japanese businesses use their R&D - design capabilities to create value. Despite severe market changes, shorter development cycles and global hyper-competition, innovative Japanese companies have succeeded in converting applied research into customised solutions that meet the needs of the IT-driven society. A generation of agile companies has weathered the crisis by investing in innovative, technology-intensive models with a clear vision and focused, product-oriented strategy.

This mission is a unique chance for EU managers to meet the new wave of innovation leaders in IT-related industries "made in Japan".

The course coordinator is Professor Tadahiro Ohmi, a leading authority in the international electronics industry, Professor Ohmi is also Director of the Future Information Industry Creation Center, NICHe, based in Sendai, Japan.


Programme Design
The "Innovation Made in Japan" programme is two weeks long. It is including lectures and company visits.

Participant Profile & Eligibility
The participants
  • must be citizens of an EU Member State;
  • must work for an organisation that is >50% EU or Japanese-owned, or a subsidiary thereof;
  • must be presented by their employer and be able to participate in     the entire programme;
  • must have a reasonable command of English;
  • should be managers from industrial companies;
  • should have a minimum of 5 to 10 years' experience in industry.


  • Selection criteria:
  • the professional & educational background of the candidate;

  • the strategy of the participant's company regarding business with Japan

    In order to ensure a high degree of personal attention, the number of participants in each programme is limited.

    Besides the standard criteria for eligibility, the preference for this course will be given to managers from innovative EICT-related industries. Although applications will also be considered from managers from innovative companies in other sectors.

  • Costs

    There are neither tuition nor registration fees: the EU-Japan Centre covers costs directly related to the programme. The participant's company is expected to cover travel costs to/from Japan and living expenses (including accommodation and food).
